In 2003, Differently Abled Angel’s Haven opened its doors. It was a project to help children with disabilities, mainly ADHD, autism, and epilepsy. This was after observing that they are chained in the community or society with no treatment or rehabilitation.
We have 34 children, 15 of whom are boys and 19 are girls. They are all accommodated in the children’s home and share the facilities. We also have five caregivers and one social worker on staff who are dedicated to this great task and offer their skills.
We believe that “all men are created equal”, penned by Thomas Jefferson. We provide dignity to children who are typically forgotten, shamed, or abused. We also believe that all human beings are made in the image of God, regardless of their outward appearance.
In Kenya, the majority of differently abled children do not get the opportunity to attend school. Each of our ten classrooms has less than ten students to ensure that each child’s needs are satisfied.
We serve very poor families in Kenya who do not have access to other special education resources. Most additional resources (though few in number) are only available to those who can afford to pay. Our families require a free place to stay, which is how we work. Our education isn’t sophisticated; we’re not a registered school; rather, we’re a registered therapy facility that offers basic instruction.
